Dick and I have raised our five children, all Lakeville graduates. We also have 12 grandchildren, of which three have graduated and five currently attend Lakeville Schools.
As an ICU RN, I worked for Fairview for my entire nursing career, and currently work as a public health RN for Homeland Health Specialists administering vaccines. I earned my nursing degree at St. Catherine’s and continued my education at St. Catherine’s and St. Scholastica with a certification in Leadership Studies in 2014.
Being very familiar with our District and communities, I will continue to listen and be a voice for our students, parents and families, as well as our community members who may not have children in ISD194 schools. I take pride in being nonpartisan, open-minded, strategic, forward thinking, and passionate about the benefits of education to the individual and community. I value and listen to each person's experiences, especially if they're different from mine, because I learn from them and apply them to the district's issues. I seek out and welcome all points of view. I am an advocate for children and academic opportunities.
My priorities include providing a path for ALL students towards their academic, co-curricular, and future career success, school security and safety, and high-quality facilities for students and staff. I strongly believe in the importance of addressing and providing support to address inclusion, mental health, and learning needs.
I am guided in my board work with what is best for the students and the district. All voices of students, parents, community members and staff are important for me to hear. District goals, data, the strategic plan, the superintendent's recommendations and available resources, including responsible fiscal oversight, contribute to my analysis of benefits vs consequences for decisions. I work towards solutions with collaboration and consensus.
To expand opportunities, I have several ideas, including more apprenticeship and mentorships, increase high school day to seven periods from six, begin foreign languages earlier than currently offered, band as a phy-ed credit, a career and tech center, a new, more comprehensive ALC, and expanded support and staff.
I have been honored to serve our children and communities, and I hope to continue.
I humbly ask for your vote and support at the polls on Nov. 8.
